Friday: Surgery was planned to start at 7:30 and was delayed till 8:45. Tammie was out of surgery at 4:00 and was in recovery till 5:45. During surgery 70% of the tumor was removed. Surgery took so long because the tumor wasn't acting like the surgeons thought it would. It had been growing into the tissue so they had to pull it off little by little. After recovery she was moved to ICU. During this time she couldn't talk and could barely open her eyes.
Saturday:The CT scan revealed that she had two strokes either during or after surgery. One stroke did no damage while the other was in the area they were working on. The damaging stroke has disabled her ability to move most of the right side of her body, but this should all come back during rehab. She began to open her eyes more and was nodding her head and grunting.
Sunday: Tammie was speaking some but not much. Simple things like yes, or no, or ok. She said a few short sentences such as, "I want to see my boys", "I just want to be left alone" and "I want to go home". She knows who everybody is but is unable to say names. Towards the end of the night Stephen had managed to get her to eat some ice.
Monday: Tammie began saying a few sentences at a time, but after one or two sentences her word's get mixed up and scrambled. She can say your name, and is staying awake much more. Her use in the right side is still limited. She took some drinks of liquid. She passed some of her swallowing test but coffed when drinking water so the doctors put her on a thicker fluid. She ate some dinner and rested up.
Tuesday: Tammy was moved out of ICU and into a regular hospital room. She is more aware and is able to stay awake for longer periods of time. She still needs much more rest but has improved greatly from the first day of surgery. She ate several meals and sips on koolaid or a cranberry limeades everynow and then. The pathology came back on the tumor and it is non cancerous. The doctors think that she might be able to go to rehab at the end of this week or the start of the next. Kelley and Ashley Bennett are staying the night with her so Stephen can go to a hotel room and get some rest.
We would like to thank everybody for their prayers, calls, and visits. We couldn't have better friends or family. Continue to keep us in your prayers.
Thank you,
The Treadwells.
